The Dallas Arts District is getting an exciting new addition next week. Highly-anticipated Asian fusion restaurant Musumé will open its doors on Wednesday, January 24 in the HALL Arts building.The upscale eatery will offer a range of cuisine, including world-class sushi, and the largest selection of sake in Texas.
Named for the Japanese word for “daughter,” Musumé comes from creator Josh Babb and partner Sean Clavir of Rock Libations restaurant group (Shooters, Prohibition Chicken and Chop Shop). Babb was also the general manager and co-owner of Japanese restaurant Kenichi for a decade.
Musumé is the second restaurant to open in the HALL Arts building, but it’s already in good company: Stephan Pyles’ critically-acclaimed Flora Street Café has thrived there since 2016.
The kitchen will be led by executive chef Ken Lumpkin, a New Orleans transplant with extensive experience in sushi making and a background in classic French cooking. Lumpkin will put his diverse skill set to use at Musumé with interesting dishes like grilled lamb lollipops and five spice duck leg confit. The menu is seafood-focused, but there are a few steaks and a bountiful array of vegan and vegetarian options.
Along with the impressive selection of over 100 sakes, Musumé’s bar program will include a variety of Japanese whiskey and an Asian-inspired craft cocktail menu.
The sake collection actually serves as the centerpiece for the restaurant’s modern decor; Behind the bar, rows of uplit bottles are visible from the street. The Gensler Dallas team, led by Dana Foley, created an airy, serene environment with touches of Asian flair like a large ceremonial gong, and Asian murals of nature.
The restaurant also has a second-floor rooftop patio with views of the Winspear Opera House, AT&T Performing Arts Center and the Wyly Theater. Sadly, it will only be used for private events.
Musumé will be open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Friday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
