ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jesús Bautista Moroles was an American sculptor known for his monumental abstract works in granite. Over 2,000 works by Moroles can be found in public and private collections in the United States, China, Egypt, France, Italy, Japan, and Switzerland. His largest was the Houston Police Officers’ Memorial installed in 1990, and one of his best-known works, Lapstrake, was created for CBS Plaza in New York City. Moroles received numerous awards for his work including the Texas Medal of the Arts in 2007, and the National Medal of Arts in 2008. In 2011, he was designated a Texas State Artist by the Texas State Commission on the Arts. He described his work with both polished and natural granite as a “harmonious coexistence,” and as a “discussion” of how man interacts with nature. Learn more about Jesús Moroles at www.jesúsmoroles.com.
